Cop’s Case Continued

A rookie cop who was charged with drunkenly refusing to leave a downtown bar hired a private lawyer and delayed his appearance in Superior Court.

Officer Jason Bandy, who’s 24, was arrested last week in connection to an incident at the Center Street Lounge on Oct. 30. Police say he called in sick to work, then went out and got drunk, urinated on the bathroom floor at the bar, then flashed his badge and refused to leave when security tried to evict him.

The police chief is currently pursuing administrative charges against the cop, who has less than a year on the force.

Bandy was due to be arraigned Thursday morning at Superior Court on Elm Street.

“Bandy?” called out a state prosecutor in court. “Bandy?”

The officer was nowhere to be found. It turned out there was an apparent communication mix-up. Bandy hired Attorney Gregory Cerritelli, of Knight, Conway & Cerritelli, to defend him. Cerritelli entered an appearance Wednesday and requested that the case be continued.

Bandy’s new court date is Jan. 8, Ceritelli said.
