Crime Drops 12%

Crime dropped 12 percent over the first nine months of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008.
So reports Police Chief James Lewis. More statistical good news: Homicides dropped 57 percent over that period. Firearms arrests shot up 21 percent.
Lewis attributed the latter change to more calls from citizens about people with guns; and to a 78 percent increase in motor vehicle and traffic stops, some of which lead cops to discover illegal weapons.
Lewis reported the news in the latest edition of his department’s monthly public newsletter, The Blue Review. Click here to read it.

this is great news, and the public's renewed belief in and respect for the NHPD stems in large part from these new efforts, which were long overdue. keep it up, sirs.

GREAT news--really glad we have such a good Chief working hard!

Homicides dropped 57, thats only because the people shooting couldn't hit the side of a barn. Why don't you report how shooting are up in New Haven.
Police Chief James Lewis please read N.H.I Crime log and then tell me how crime is down in New Haven. I think Chief Lewis has done a great job and hope he stays around to do more good work. But please dont try to give me a snow job about crime being down.

Great News and Thanks to Chief Lewis for giving credit to citizens for calling in.
This a community success story and told appropriately by the Chief!
That's how Chief Lewis's actions here will be lasting even after he leaves.

This is great news, even with the typical New haven pre-Xmas bump it sounds like were having, from looking at muggings and general thievery on the Crime Map. I hope everyone remembers this dip and continues to thank and appreciate Lewis and his officers, rather than complain about tickets and harassment. Before the police left more up to us, the community, but a.- we couldn't do it alone, and b. - not everyone was on board and being helpful. New Haven will continue to be on the up and up if we all watch out for one another and make this city a place criminals do NOT want to operate. This means not acting like targets, being more aware, helping one another and not being afraid to come forward if we see something going on.

Paul, I didn't know about the Blue Review. Please publish it on a monthly basis. Thank you for your service to New Haven. Thanks also to Chief Lewis, who, I hope, will stay with us for a longer period of time.

John Doe -
You said like "I know what I know. Just don't confuse me with the facts." It may get better and it may get worse, but, at least for the moment, be happy for the good news.
