Following a five-month manhunt, a 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection to several shootings near Dixwell Avenue.

The suspect was arrested on five outstanding warrants and held on $900,000 bail.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

New Haven Officer John Palmer, a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, located the fugitive on Tuesday. He found him at an Elm Street home belonging to the man’s girlfriend. The man was wanted in connection to three attempted shootings, an armed street robbery, and violation of probation. All the crimes took place near Dixwell Avenue. Police had been looking for the man since June.

In other police news, according to Avery:

A man was robbed of his cell phone and wallet on Tuesday night. The crime was reported at 7:52 p.m. The victim said that he had been approached by three males on Greenwich Avenue near Third Street. After punching him in the eye, they took his wallet and phone. Police canvassed the area and detained several suspects. The victim ID’d one of them in person, a 23-year-old man. Once placed in the rear of a police cruiser, the man tried to hide the victim’s cell phone in the back of the car. He was charged with robbery and assault.

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, a 28-year-old Yale doctoral student was punched in the face by two males near the corner of Mansfield and Woodland Streets. They took the victim’s cellphone, wallet, and backpack.

City Bus To The Rescue

A man tried to abduct a 16-year-old girl on Tuesday night. At 7 p.m. near the corner of Temple and Elm Streets, the man grabbed the girl by her jacket and told her to come with him. When a city bus pulled up, the man released the girl and fled in the direction of the public library.

Two men were robbed of their car by two women at 8:30 on Tuesday night. The mugging happened near the corner of Congress Avenue and White Street. The men were approached by two woman wielding a gun and a knife. There was a struggle in which one of the men received a laceration to his hand. The women stole a 1990 Honda Accord.
