Object Lesson #41

121609_Finch.jpegSilas Finch, Capture, 2009, found wood

near the Canoe Launch, Mill River
East Rock Park,
north side of the bridge,
Orange Street between Mitchell Drive and English Drive

This is a tree repaired, with pruned branches assembled into a trap for fog. Silas Finch’s gift for re-imagining the debris of the ordinary is here offered as a small mystery, unofficial but fitting. This might be a fragile memorial to the weirs that once waited here for fish, and the lost people who built them. For other encounters with the artist’s work, see his magical flying ships now on display at Derek Simpson Goldsmith, 1094 Chapel, and a provocative meditation on the murder of John F. Kennedy at Lulu’s Coffee House, 49 Cottage Street.

Excellent, Silas. You're our very own Andy Goldsworthy!

Someone give me a 'andy goldsworthy' soul clap. I'm choking on my biscotti over here.
