$1,300 Stolen In Mugging, Recovered

by Thomas MacMillan | January 6, 2010 8:35 AM |

After muggers took off with his wallet and over $1,000 in cash, a man flagged down an officer — and the hunt for the bandits began.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

At 8:35 p.m. on Monday night, Officer Senior was flagged down by a man who said he had just been robbed of his wallet and $1,300 cash on Kimberly Avenue. He told the officer that he had been mugged by two males with a gun.

After interviewing witnesses, police were pointed to an apartment not far away on Kimberly Avenue. Police located the muggers on the second floor and the victim was able to ID them in person. After searching the apartment, police found the money and a large BB gun. The wallet was found in an alley nearby.

In other police news, according to Avery:

Gunshots were reported at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the corner of Whalley Avenue and the Boulevard. Police responded and were told that a bystander had been shot in the leg, but they were unable to find that victim. Three suspects were spotted on Sherman Avenue, and chased on foot. All three were caught, and a handgun was recovered from where it had been thrown in the snow. One of the suspects had crack on him.

“Kareem” Charged With Selling Crack

The Connecticut U.S. States Attorney announced on Tuesday that a 25-year-old known as “Kareem” has been charged with possession and intent to distribute more than five grams of crack. “Kareem” lives on Grand Avenue.

The indictment charges that “Kareem” sold the crack in March, 2009. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $4 million.
