Arlene Shaw

Suddenly, in this city, on Friday, January 1, 2010, Arlene Francis Shaw, age 57, went home to be with the Lord. Ms. Shaw was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 24, 1952 and was the daughter of Douglas Shaw and the late Elizabeth Charlotte (Smith) Shaw, she received her education in New Haven Public School system. She was currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree from Penn Foster College.
For 25 years, she was an Administrative Assistant for the Director of the Head Start Program, Board of Education for the city of New Haven and was an active member of the Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church. Affectionately known as “Leanie”, “State Mother”, “Mae Francis” and “MeMa” that is used by her grandchildren. In addition to her father, Douglas Shaw, she is survived by her loving children, Travis Shaw and Lauren Nicole Shaw of New Haven, CT. two grandchildren, Aiyana Elizabeth Shaw, and Ma’Leiah Jade Moody of New Haven, four brothers, Douglas J. (Edna), and Dwayne S. Shaw of New Haven, Marvin (Dawn) Shaw of Cranston, Rhode Island and Dale (Susan) Shaw of New Britain, CT, one sister, Rozalind A. Shaw of New Haven and one godchild, Theodore L. Brooks III of New Haven, a special aunt, Doris Abad of Willingsboro, New Jersey, best friend, Yvonne Mitchell of New Haven, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church family. A celebration of her life will take place Friday January 8, 2010 at 7 PM Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church,782 Orchard Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will take place Saturday January 9, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, CT at 10 AM. Friends may call Friday at Beulah Heights from 5-7 PM.
