After assaulting a delivery man on Friday night, muggers made off with $89.50 in Chinese food and $45 in cash, police said. It was the sixth reported assault of a delivery man in just over a week.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
A delivery man for East Pearl Street’s Golden Wok Chinese Restaurant was mugged on Friday at 8:38 p.m. He told police he was making a delivery to 68 Saltonstall Ave. when two men charged him outside a house on Richard Street. One had a .38 caliber handgun. The men demanded money. They took $89.50 worth of Chinese food and $45 and fled on foot.
Other recent delivery man-related crimes include a mugging and attempted mugging of pizza deliverers on Wednesday Dec. 30. The second of these took place on Richard Street, the scene of Friday’s mugging.
Delivery men were also mugged on Monday Dec. 28, Saturday Dec. 26, and Wednesday Dec. 23.
Mace Assault
In other police news, an ongoing beef developed into a tear gas assault on Saturday when a pedestrian was attacked by man and woman armed with Mace. Here’s what happened, according to Avery:
At 3:07 p.m., the victim was walking near Dixwell Avenue and Munson Street. A man and a woman jumped out of a Nissan Maxima and maced the victim, who tried to flee but was maced again and then punched. The attackers grabbed the victim’s cell phone and fled.
Officers Tom Benedetto and Duane Biros later arrested the man and woman on Elm Street. Police said the attack was part of an ongoing dispute between the pair and the victim.
Shots Fired On New Year’s Eve
Police reported 14 “unlawful discharges” of firearms on Jan. 1. Four of them were within fifteen minutes of New Year’s Eve. Four more were within the first three hours of the new year.
