Douglas Lilly, 63, of New Haven, passed away on December 31, 2009 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness. Beloved husband of Alfreda Black-Lilly. Born October 5, 1946 in Stanley County, NC, son of the late Alfonso Lilly and Catherine Barger Lilly. Doug retired from Stop & Shop Warehouse after 30 years as a fork lift operator. He also drove buses for 20 years for various companies: Double A, Peter Pan, Arrow/Coach USA, Faithway, Affordable, Cardinals and Pjford. Earlier years Doug worked at Pratt & Whitney. Besides his wife, he leaves 3 sons Atty Douglas G. Lilly (Elita) of Meriden, Petty Officer 1st Class Raphael Lilly (Trina) of Ocean Springs, MS and JC Reddick III of Pawtucket, RI, 3 brothers Alphonso Jr., Willie and David Lilly all of New Haven, 4 sisters Florence Henderson of Henderson, NV, Brenda Gramling, Barbara Jean Gibson and Beatrice Cheek all of New London, NC, 6 grandchildren, an aunt Mabel Christian and an uncle Julius Christian both of New London, NC, mother-in-law Annette Hicks Black of New Haven. In addition he leaves, adopted sons Kelven Howard of Hamden and Willie Elliott of Waterbury. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother George Lilly and 2 sisters, Cathy Ann Telford and Mary Goins and sister-in-law Annette Black. A celebration of his life will take place at Friendship Baptist Church, 26 Edwards Street, Hamden, CT 06517 on Saturday January 9, 2010. Friends may call Saturday from 8-9AM, 9 AM begins the funeral services. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
