No Ball This Year

John DeStefano may have made history by beginning a ninth two-year term as mayor Friday. But he’s not commemorating his new term with the traditional inaugural ball.

He decided the Great Recession might not be the right time for a fancy shindig.

“I’ve been here a while,” DeStefano said. “Times are tough. It didn’t seem essential.”

Yeah, plus, i don't think anyone would have come. Give back your raise, let there be revenue generating events (concerts) at the tennis center, yale bowl and woolsey hall.

Just got a shiny new 2010 City of New Haven calendar with a photo of King John and spouse inside front cover. Calendar was addressed to "resident". How much did these fine promotional items cost us in taxpayer dollars? Needless to say, I recycled it.
