Housing Authority Settles Suits

nhihanhmay19%20003.JPGOn Dec. 5, 2000, 3 year-old Dejuan Ward was being bathed in an apartment at the former (pre-renovation) Quinnipiac Terrace projects on Peck Street. Scalding hot water came out of the shower. It caused severe and disabling third degree burns over the child's back, neck and head causing physical and emotional injury, and great expense.

Stimulus Spending Starts

nhihanhmay19%20008.JPGThe Housing Authority of New Haven (HANH) is "stimulating." Having received in March $6 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, aka President Obama's economic stimulus plan, HANH has already authorized spending the first $1.25 million.

And the money is staying close to home.

Solomon Reelected, Miller Reappointed

Also elected were Reverend Jason Turner as vice chair, Lee Cruz as the assistant treasurer, and Sheila Carmen as assistant secretary.

Banks Duck City On Foreclosed Homes

Ten lenders owning 60 homes in New Haven met a city deadline to offer the name and phone number of a person to contact with problems -- leaving institutions that have foreclosed on another 190 problem properties facing $250-a-day fines.
