Election season is underway: Should the stage on the Green be transformed into a huge nomadic tent this winter , covered in colorful ribbons? Should three bell towers arise on the Green? Or should 9,000 lights on nine cubes evoke the Nine Squares? Click here for the full story.

“Green Drinks” Catching On

Nate Bixby was on his way in to Wednesday night’s Green Drinks at Geronimo’s on Crown Street; Julie Newman was on her way out. These two environmental movers and shakers chatted for a few minutes before going their separate ways — and demonstrated why this year-old event is catching on.

Stars Come Out For 1st Food & Wine Fest

Immigrants Celebrated in Fair Haven Cantata

Nagasaki in New Haven

A group of cyclists rode the two-mile diameter circle extending out from the Green to mark what would have been the blast area — inside which all life would be destroyed — had the bomb the size of the one the U.S. dropped on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945 dropped on New Haven. Organizer David Eliscu welcomed cyclists and explained their mission.

New Haven Idol?

At an open casting call, aspiring singers — some nervous, some brazenly confident — sung their hearts out before a panel of three judges. This was not the latest episode of American Idol, but an open casting call for kids aspiring to wow crowds at the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament later this month.
