A Modernist Icon Reopens, Renewed

Yale University and art gallery administrators, curators, and architects gathered in the newly renovated Louis Kahn building Thursday to celebrate the reopening of an icon of modernist architecture. Following a three-year, $44 million dollar renovation, the Yale University Art Gallery’s main building will reopen to the public on December 10.

Gone Dishin’ For Direction At The Arts Council

The professional arts community turned out to meet, greet and welcome the new executive director of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, Cindy Clair. Orchestrated by multi-talented key staffers, Bobbi Griffith, Soonil Chun and Barbara Feldman, the newly renovated Neighbohood Music School was a perfect venue for the gathering.

Flood Hits SCSU Library

Problem: A late-semester flood hit the main library at Southern Connecticut State University. Periodicals and academic journals stored on the lowest two floors suffered water damage when a pipe burst .
The solution? Freeze ‘em.

So rejoiced the state’s health care advocate, Kevin Lembo (pictured), in referene to a judge’s ruling that HMOs must reveal how much of the $700 million they get in taxpayer money goes to run Connecticut’s health-care program for the poor, and how much goes to their own overhead and executive pay.

Teens’ Curfew Message: Spend Time With Us, Instead

Teens — and only teens — got to speak out about the proposed teen curfew at a government hearing, and speak out they did. Seventeen-year-old senior Sherrell Willis (pictured): “Curfew, curfew, curfew! All we hear from you [alders, adults] is curfew… Why do you think we shoot each other? To get attention… Parents need to understand no matter how their life is going: You made me, you need to spend time with me, no matter how tough your job is or how bad a day you had.”

One Arrested; One More Shot

A teenage boy is under arrest in connection to the shooting of a 14 year-old girl Monday. —Meanwhile, a rash of apparently unrelated shootings continued, with a fifth victim in 48 hours clinging to life in the hospital. —And a Yale student was mugged on Howe Street.
