Union Withdraws Election Petition

The union seeking to organize blue-collar workers at Yale-New Haven Hospital has withdrawn the petition it filed with the government to hold an election, saying management’s violations have “destroyed any hope for a fair election.”

Carjacker Takes Unattended Child

A woman left her car running and her 14-month-old child inside when she jumped out to do an errand at Whalley and Sherman Avenues at 8:16 p.m. Saturday. When she came back, a man was sitting in the front seat brandishing a gun. He drove away with the baby, but promptly crashed the car across the street. The child was uninjured. DCF is investigating the woman’s behavior.

Nature, Nurture & Regaining a Community’s Rhythm

New Haven’s black community has lost its rhythm, said Bea Dozier-Taylor [pictured]. She wasn’t talking about beats and steps, but the moral fiber that unites communities into powerful, mobilized forces. She and other panelists at a Gateway forum called upon their generation to step up to the plate and take it back—as they debated the problem’s root causes.
