New Stats: Overall Crime Down, But Shootings Up

With a worrisome spike in shootings over the first half of the year, city officials said work needs to be done to reach two groups: Young at-risk kids and older men who’ve just gotten out of jail.

Indiana Jones Begins the Chase

(Updated: 5:20 p.m.) On his first day filming a chase scene through the city for Indiana Jones IV, a stunt man fell off a motorcycle and was sent to the hospital. These cars got weary zooming down College Street—one needed a jump start.

Driver “Ambushed”

A man was driving down Grand Avenue when four people on bicycles ambushed his car. As he drove past 349 Grand Ave. at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday, the bikers surrounded his car, forced the door open, and mugged him. They took his car radio and wallet, and gave him a split lip.
Read on for more crime details, according to police spokeswoman Bonnie Posick.
A 30-year-old man is suffering from non-life threatening injuries afer being shot once below the chest at Newhall and Basset Streets in Newhallville. He walked into Yale-New Haven Hospital around 12:56 a.m. Thursday.
A 24-year-old was stabbed in the left side of the torso, at Sherman Parkway and West Division Street at 9:11 p.m.
