Your Bootfinder Bucks At Work

by Staff | Aug 30, 2007 12:39 am | Comments (1)

IMG_9661.JPGWhen the Bootfinder hauls away your car for back taxes, remember it’s helping kids like Joel Suarez (pictured at right) learn digital storytelling. So argued the mayor Wednesday, announcing a new round of youth programming grants totaling $150,000. Meanwhile, Suarez and other video-makers and essayists showed their stuff at a “Color of Words” celebration in the Hill. Click here and here for reports from Melinda Tuhus and Melissa Bailey.

Student Assaulted

by Melissa Bailey | Aug 29, 2007 2:36 pm

A Yale grad student was assaulted while walking home on Prospect Street. Read on for details, according to Yale Police Chief James Perrotti:

“Consistent with federal reporting requirements and in order to increase
awareness about security matters, I write to let you know that a graduate
student was the victim of an assault that occurred Saturday night at 10:27
pm on Prospect Street near Hillside. The student was walking south on
Prospect Street when approached by two male subjects, one pushing a
bicycle, who were walking northbound. When they were close, the pair began
to punch the student and then fled down Hillside towards Mansfield. They
are described as being in their late teens, one approximately 6’ tall,
thin build, wearing a white sleeveless shirt with dark pants, and the
other approximately 5’10” tall, thin build, wearing a white shirt with
red shorts. The New Haven Police and the Yale Police are investigating
and ask for anyone who may have seen something to call us. The information
you may have could help solve the case. We have increased our patrols in
this area, and as always, I reiterate my request that you use the
University escort service or transportation system and not walk alone. If
you should witness suspicious activity, please report it immediately to
the police at 432-4400. Timely reports help tremendously in solving cases
and deterring crime.

Sincerely,

Chief James Perrotti”
