Victims’ Friends: “How Did This Happen?”

Katrina Jenkins (pictured) sat in a tense waiting room Friday as her best friend — one of the victims in a double shooting at the Vandome Night Club Thursday — lay clinging to life in a hospital bed. With six cops working at the club at the time, she and clubgoers wondered how the shooters got away.

Engineer Pressed In Dumping Case

Cop Sues City Over Sick Time Crackdown

A veteran city patrol officer who was kicked off the police dive team is suing the city in federal court, arguing through his lawyer (pictured) police department higher-ups were “capricious” and “unfair” when they cracked down on officers abusing sick time days.

Officer Recovering From Crash

Officer Craig Miller was hit in his police cruiser while driving through Fair Haven Wednesday night. The crash happened at Lombard and James. The offending driver fled on foot. Miller got “banged up and bruised,” was treated for minor injuries, and is now at home, recovering from the incident, according to police spokesmen Officer Joe Avery and Jessica Mayorga.
In other news, according to Avery:
A chinese deliveryman had just dropped off some food at 84 Exchange St. Wednesday night when two masked men approached him. The showed a gun, stole $300 and fled.

Ship’s Engineer Details Dumping Deception

Facing jail time in a federal deep-sea pollution trial, a Filipino engineer accused of lying to U.S. maritime authorities lashed out against his Greek employers in federal court in New Haven, saying he had been pressured into his lies by higher-ups onboard a leaky oil tanker.

Activists Ask: Rosa, Wherefore Are Thou?

Following an action Tuesday night in which protesters called on members of Congress to vote to bring U.S. troops home, peace activists (like Henry Lowendorf, pictured in file photo) are calling on U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro to sign onto a letter vowing to vote against any more funds for the war in Iraq. Seventy of her colleagues have done just that.
