Behind Enemy Lines
by christopher grobe | Sep 30, 2007 4:38 pm

In Prayer for My Enemy, the new play that currently occupies Stage II at the Long Wharf Theatre, playwright Craig Lucas returns to some of his favorite themes—family strife, addiction, stifled rage, and repressed sexuality. One assumes that the ideal spectator will exclaim, as one of his characters does in an eruption of interior monologue, “I am in love with your family’s suffering!”

Gone Dishin’ for Fun, Fellowship and Community
by Gone Dishin' | Sep 30, 2007 3:11 pm
New Haven may be blessed with more energetic pro activists than any other city of its size and economy. Never is it more apparent than when the summer’s end signals that the brief hiatus from meetings and fund raisers is over; this September has been busy!

Castaway #4: Jonny Rodgers Goes Solo
Some know him for his legendary local band Mighty Purple. Others know him as the son of a local preacher man. I’ve always been intrigued by the fact that he’s the nephew of one of my favorite novelists. Now he’s recording new music, solo. On the latest edition of the Independent’s “Castaway” podcast, a conversation with the great Jonny Rodgers, we hear a sneak preview.

When A Rose Is More Than A Rose
by Melinda Tuhus | Sep 28, 2007 8:10 am | Comments (7)
The Pardee Rose Garden is on the Hamden side of East Rock Park. So why are only New Haven students from the Sound School (as opposed to Sound School students from any other towns, including Hamden) allowed to participate in its hands-on programs? That question arose at the dedication Thursday morning of the Pardee Greenhouse, as some of those students bordered the red carpet.

by Nicole Allan | Sep 27, 2007 8:55 am
Either there aren’t many Rudy Giuliani supporters at Yale, or they don’t want to talk about it. Of the eight Yale students who turned out to rally behind the Republican’s presidential campaign, most were reluctant to speak publicly and be labeled conservative on a campus known as a liberal hotbed.
