by Melissa Bailey | Jul 31, 2008 4:16 pm | Comments (2)
A car chase following an East Haven bank robbery came to a sputtering stop in Fair Haven, where four suspects were nabbed.
The incident started at 10:17 a.m. at the People’s Bank inside the Stop & Shop store at 370 Hemingway Ave. in East Haven. Here’s what happened, according to Lieutenant Joseph Slane of the East Haven police:
A lone man walked into the bank. He went up to the teller and implied he had a gun. The teller turned over $1,600. The suspect was seen fleeing in a green minivan.

Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo, who was Mayor John DeStefano’s press spokeswoman for his first two terms in office then spent a decade promoting good news about New Haven schools, was feted Wednesday night at a retirement party. (She’s shown on the right in photo with her sister, Patricia Sullivan, who came down from Boston to celebrate.)

Teen Arrested
by Melissa Bailey | Jul 31, 2008 8:33 am | Comments (1)
Officers D. Rivera and J. Miranda spotted a group of people creating a “breach of peace” at Orchard and Elm Streets at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. A group of them left on bicycles. As cops approached one of the bikers, a 17-year-old from County Street, he began to flee on foot, according to police. The cops chased him on foot into the rear of 309 Dixwell Ave. Police say they found a loaded Smith and Wesson gun near where the suspect was detained. They arrested him on gun charges.
And a man walked into police headquarters at 3:55 a.m. Thursday to report that he had been mugged. He said he had been walking in the area of Edgewood and Ella Grasso Blvd when he was approached by an unknown man. The mugger, who appeared to be in his late teens, simulated having a weapon. The victim was robbed of a gold chain, gold cross and wedding band.

Unlike Quinell, Norman Was Reached
by Allan Appel | Jul 31, 2008 7:06 am | Comments (22)
A year ago Norman Boone was spending his time on the streets “beefin’” — stirring up fights with kids who wandered into his Dixwell/ “Tribe” territory. Today, he’s learning painting in a job training program, is enrolled in adult ed for his GED, and, to use his phrase, “I’m on the right road and am going to keep going.”
