Lucie Safarova was the story Thursday at the CT Open in Westville.
The Czech tennis player with the three-digit mile-per-hour serve ended up in the hardest-fought women’s singles match of the day on the stadium court, pitting citizens of two countries that were once one.
It went three sets. Safarova lost the first 7 – 6 to Slovak Dominika Cibulkova , eked out the second 6 – 4 …
… and went into overtime to win the final, deciding set, 7 – 5 …
