Police arrested three men over the weekend in connection to two downtown muggings involving Yale students.
The two muggings took place Saturday night. According to Yale spokesman Tom Conroy and Yale Assistant Police Chief Ronnell Higgins:
At 10:20 p.m., two students were robbed at gunpoint on Crown Street, near the Crown Towers at 123 York St. During the robbery, one of the students was “assaulted but not seriously injured.”
Yale police responded and quickly spotted two suspects. After a foot chase, the officers detained two men, age 20 and 19. New Haven cops later found a gun in the area. It was determined to be stolen.
The suspects, who live on Howe and Wayfarer streets respectively, were charged with: first-degree robbery, interfering with an officer, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, criminal possession of a pistol, second-degree assault, and second-degree assault with a firearm.
Also Saturday, another Yale student was mugged at Crown and York streets at about 9:30 p.m., Conroy said. The student was “robbed of a small amount of cash and a credit card.” The student called police, who soon spotted and arrested a suspect. A 49-year-old man from Judson Street was charged with: third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.
“We are relieved to have these suspects in custody and hope that there are no further incidents like this,” wrote Higgins in an email to the Yale community. Higgins said Yale police have stepped up patrols near campus. He urged Yale affiliates to use the university’s 24/7 escort service or transportation system by calling 203-432-WALK.
Also Saturday, police responded to a report of a street robbery at 4 a.m. at Winthrop Avenue and Percival Street. No further details were available on that incident.
Crime Map
Police responded to 10 reports of unlawful discharge of a firearm over the weekend. Police found no shooting victims, according to mayoral spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga.

A) Yale students really need to be aware of their surroundings.
B) WTF happened this weekend? HS!

WTF… Awareness should be practiced by all people -at all times, in all communities. Congratulations to Police who did a good job in collaring the offenders. Once the word gets out that Downtown students are NOT fair game by these street punks, crime will abate. Time to turn the tables on predators, maintain the order, and go about living in peace.

Its all anonymous , no names of accused criminals , no names of victims , Is this the new face of the city ? Just the names of the Yale spokesman as if that matters in any way. Anything to protect our ” Liberal” ideas.
Even the NY Times prints the names of accused criminals .
