After two men shot cashier Sanjay Patel to death at a Forbes Avenue food mart last week, they fled on foot — though a surveillance video did capture a 4‑door Ford Focus with a sunroof nearby.
This Saturday someone shot to death a grocery store clerk in Bridgeport. The perpetrators were spotted leaving the scene in a 4‑door Ford Focus with a sunroof.
Same car?
“Neither the NHPD nor BPD is considering the crimes connected,” reported New Haven police spokesman Officer David Hartman. “That said, detectives from the two departments are in contact with one another regarding their respective investigations. Should evidence be uncovered suggesting the cases are in fact related, such information will be shared with the public and press pool.”
Meanwhile, according to Hartman:
• A female employee of Smokin’ Wings on Congress Avenue was shot in her stomach while inside the kitchen during a failed armed robbery inside the restaurant around 11 p.m. Saturday. Three men had come in, one of whom pointed a gun at employees. “When he tried rounding the counter, one of the workers blocked his path. The gunman fired three shots at them before he and his cohorts fled empty-handed.” The men fled down Daggett Street, where cops found a black revolver in a trash can.
• After cops broke up a drag-racing gathering on Route 80 near the McDonald’s Sunday night, one fleeing racer “backed up into a utility pole and then tried squeezing between the two patrol cars, striking one of them on the front bumper. The officers tried catching up to the offender but the vehicle was being operated too recklessly to justify a pursuit. The officer in the struck cruiser wasn’t injured and the cruiser sustained only minor damage.”
• Two men robbed a Brick Oven delivery driver at gunpoint on County Street at 3:05 a.m. Sunday.
• The fuss at the Whalley Stop & Shop around 7:30 p.m. Sunday — including an evacuation of the store — concerned an abandoned briefcase that turned out to be harmless.
