2 Shot In Hill

Police are investigating two apparently related shootings within a block of each other in the Hill this weekend.

At least they strongly suspect the shootings are related. They have substantial and credible information to suggest” the shootings are connected … and were not random acts.

That’s according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. Here’s what he said happened:

A 17-year-old from Newhallville was shot in his left knee on Davenport Avenue en route to a house party, at around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Then on Sunday night around 8:30, cops returned to the area, around West Street, to find a 15-year-old boy shot in his left leg. They found that several fired bullets had struck and penetrated” a West Street House; no one inside was hurt. The victim told police he heard gunfire” two masked men got out of a Nissan Altima or Maxima, and realized he’d been shot.” The victim eventually stop[ped] cooperating with investigators.”

The investigation is continuing.

So is an investigation into a stabbing that took place around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Poplar and Woolsey streets in Fair Haven. Six men in their 20s allegedly stopped two victims, tried to rob them, then stabbed one of the victims in the abdomen; the other victim got away. After surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the victim’s condition was upgraded from critical to stable.
