2 Guns Recovered In Ferry St. Shooting

One man remains critical while another is recovering from non-life threatening wounds after both were shot on Ferry Street.

At 7:28 p.m. Monday, officers and EMTs were dispatched to the Hess gas station at Ferry and State streets. Calls to 911 had reported two people shot.

Officers located the two victims, according to a press release from police department spokesman David Hartman.

A 25-year-old New Haven man was found on the Ferry Street bridge near the gas station, shot in the leg and stomach. He was conscious and alert and spoke with investigators, according to Hartman.

In the doorway to the gas station attendant’s booth, officers found a 31-year-old New Haven who had been shot in the back and shoulder. He was unable to speak with detectives and was rushed to the hospital.

Detectives searched the scene for witnesses and reviewed video surveillance footage. A silver colored or grey Chrysler 300M seen fleeing the scene on State Street toward Hamden is believed to be involved in the shooting, according to Hartman

Police have recovered two handguns. One gun was found on the bridge near the location of the first gunshot victim; the other was located at the gas station booth where the second victim was found. These guns are now the focus of forensic scrutiny by members of the police department’s Bureau of Investigation.

An Acura TSX, owned and driven by the first gunshot victim, was towed as evidence to the police garage. Police believe the first gunshot victim – attempting to leave the scene — crashed into a van on the bridge. The van driver wasn’t injured or otherwise involved, Hartman wrote in the release.

The first gunshot victim suffered non-life threatening wounds. But the second gunshot victim remains in critical condition. Both are being treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Anyone who witnessed this crime or has information valuable to investigators is asked to phone detectives at 203 – 946-6304. Calls may be made anonymously.
