7 Displaced In Yet Another Fire

NHFD

Firefighters battled their fourth fire in two days early Monday morning.

This one occurred at 922 Winchester Ave. in Newhallville.

The call came at 3:17 a.m. Firefighters battled not just flames but poor road conditions and the cold, said Assistant Chief Matthew Marcarelli.

It was through the roof,” Marcarelli said of the flames. The fire caused extensive damage, especially on the third floor, but neighboring structures were not in danger.”

It took hours to mop up after the one-alarm fire was extinguished, he said. Three engines, a squad company, a ladder truck, and a paramedic truck were pressed into service.

Seven tenants got out of the house without injury. Firefighters had a report of another person inside, but that report turned out not to be true, Marcarelli reported.

No firefighters were injured.

Firefighter Jason Rivera left the Connecticut Burn Center in Bridgeport Sunday after receiving treatment for injuries suffered while fighting a different fire, at 64 Dickerman St. late Saturday night into Sunday morning. An occupant of that house was in critical condition after receiving serious burns; firefighters found him collapsed inside the house and resuscitated him. Click here to read about that fire.
