Keith McDonald sent in these photos of the dramatic fire that engulfed the beautiful 12-apartment building at at the corner of Tilton Street in the Dixwell neighborhood Saturday evening.

It took around 50 firefighters 20 minutes to get the fire under control, and no one was hurt, according to Fire Chief Michael Grant.

That’s what stopped the fire. It was a very quick response from a lot of people in a hurry,” Grant said.

He said Sunday evening that he doesn’t know yet what caused the fire. But its origin does not appear to be suspicious.

For now the tenants have to live elsewhere, but Grant said he believes the building will be able to be salvaged. He called the damage mostly cosmetic.”

The fire started on the second floor around 6:30 p.m.
