A Craigslist Set-up?

A New Haven man went to Blue Cliff Terrace to show a woman a laptop computer he’d advertised on the craigslist classified-ad website — only to have an armed man appear and demand he hand it over.

Here’s what happened in that incident and others around town, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:

The woman at Blue Cliff Terrace had answered the craiglist ad. The man brought it over around 9 p.m. Tuesday. As the gunman approached the victim, the victim took a swing at the armed man and took off running. As he ran, he heard two gunshots.” The shots did not hit him.

Meanwhile, shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday, cops responded to a burglary alarm at the construction site across from Co-op High School on College Street where the Centerplan company is building a $50 million apartment complex. Officers found a 42-year-old man walking from the hallway.” The man told the officers he’d been searching for a bathroom. The officers found stolen screwdrivers, tape measures and a level on him; they arrested him on burglary and larceny charges.

A fight broke out among neighbors on Winthrop Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday. It began over whether some men refused to move their cars to enable a pregnant woman to go to the hospital. In the end, the men assaulted the woman’s boyfriend and slashed the boyfriend’s mother in the face with a machete. The officers have identified the alleged assailants and plan to arrest them on home invasion, reckless endangerment, weapon and assault charges.

A 25-year-old man was treated at the hospital Tuesday for minor injuries after a bullet grazed his forehead at the Farnam Courts public-housing complex. Detectives went to see him — in order to arrest him upon his release, for allegedly committing a robbery at Farnam Courts. He is also a suspect in other serious crimes.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed last Friday night’s fatal motorcycle crash off the Route 34 Connector to contact Sgt. Rose Dell at (203) 946‑6249.
