A man was out for an evening walk with his dog when two men unleashed a hail of bullets, police said.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

At 5:39 p.m. on Monday, a 34-year-old man was walking his dog on Kensington Street when two men approached him. They opened fire, unloading 12 rounds. The victim was struck once in the calf. Police found no evidence at the scene.

In other police news, according to Avery:

A man told police at 4 p.m. on Monday that someone had tried to rob him at gunpoint near the corner of Goffe Street and Sherman Avenue. The victim told police he had slapped the gun away. He thought the gun was a toy. The would-be-mugger ran away.

Three Plead Guilty

Three members of an alleged New Haven drug ring pleaded guilty to possession and intent to distribute drugs, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced Monday.

The cases are part of operation “King of the Hill,” a fall 2008 investigation of drug trafficking in New Haven. Twenty people have been charged as a result of the investigation.

Michael Torres, Victor “Bori” Nieves, and Amy “Bella” Wergin, pleaded guilty to heroin and crack charges. Bori and Bella were heroin distributors, Torres sold “8-balls” of crack, attorneys say. The three will be sentenced in May.
