AFSCME Dumps Another $28K

In the weeks leading up to next Tuesday’s election, AFSCME spent $28,000 on mailings and web ads in support of Toni Harp’s mayoral campaign.

AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees), which represents 1.6 million current and retired public services employees, spent the money during the period from Oct. 4 to Oct. 27, according to a campaign finance report filed at the city/town clerk’s office.

Harp, a Democrat, faces petitioning candidate Justin Elicker in a general election on Tuesday.

AFSCME spent the entire $28,000 on a Virginia-based firm, Mack Sumner Communications. The money paid for two mailings and some web advertising, according to the report.

AFSCME has spent a total of $58,000 for Harp.

Elicker is not accepting money from political action committees.

AFSCME spent $30,000 of its Harp money in the primary.
