Alder Committees Set

The new Board of Alders committee are now set, and they look a lot like the old ones, with some changes.

A month in to the new alder term, the board leadership has assigned members of the board to committees, according to alder preferences.

One freshman alder — Rosa Santana of Fair Haven Heights — has taken a chairmanship, of the Aldermanic Affairs Committee. Santana is not entirely new to the board, however, having served as an alder in the past.

The rest of the committees are chaired by alders with at least one term under their belts.

The Board of Alders committees are where the real work of drafting new laws happens. They conduct public hearings on new proposals, as well as revisions and alterations to bills. Committees advise the full board on whether to approve or deny pending legislation; the full board rarely strays from that advice.

The new committees include a number of vacancies, to be filled by whoever fills the three empty seats on the board. Alders Doug Hausladen, Jackie James, and Migdalia Castro have all recently left the board for posts in Mayor Toni Harp’s new administration.

The committee assignments are:

ALDERMANIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE R: Rosa Santana (Chair), Delphine Clyburn (Vice-Chair), Barbara Constantinople, Evette Hamilton, Aaron Greenberg, Mike Stratton, and one vacancy.

CITY SERVICES AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY COMMITTEE: Sal DeCola (Chair), Tyisha Walker (Vice-Chair), Rosa Santana, Claudette Robinson-Thorpe, Adam Marchand, Anna Festa, and one vacancy.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Frank Douglass (Chair), Dolores Colon (Vice-Chair), Claudette Robinson-Thorpe, Evette Hamilton, Brian Wingate, Richard Spears, and one vacancy.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE: Angela Russell (Chair), Aaron Greenberg (Vice-Chair), Sal DeCola, Santiago Berrios-Bones, Anna Festa, and two vacancies.

FINANCE COMMITTEE : Andrea Jackson-Brooks (Chair), Evette Hamilton (Vice-Chair), Jorge Perez, Al Paolillo, Ernie Santiago, Jessica Holmes, Jeanette Morrison, Anna Festa, Mike Stratton, and one vacancy.

HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE: Santiago Berrios-Bones (Chair), Barbara Constantinople (Vice-Chair), Carlton Staggers, Richard Spears, Darryl Brackeen, and two vacancies.

LEGISLATION COMMITTEE : Jessica Holmes (Chair), Jeanette Morrison (Vice-Chair), Sarah Eidelson, Frank Douglass, Adam Marchand, Mike Stratton, and Darryl Brackeen.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE : Brian Wingate (Chair), Al Paolillo (Vice-Chair), Ernie Santiago, Barbara Constantinople, Brenda Foskey-Cyrus, Angela Russell, and Aaron Greenberg.
