A day after a fight on a basketball court led to a shooting, cops arrested the alleged shooter.
The shooting took place on Shelton Avenue Saturday around 1:30 p.m. A 26-year-old man nicknamed “Li’l Ugly” went to the hospital for treatment of non-fatal chest and arm injuries.
The victim didn’t offer information on the shooter to the cops. But a community source pointed them to “Sheem,” a 26-year-old alleged gang member and “convicted felon and probation violator” who had outstanding rearrest warrants on charges of assault on police officers, among other offenses, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. Cops caught up with Sheem on Sunday and arrested him on those charges as well as “an on-site drug charge,” Hartman reported.
In a post-arrest interview, the arrestee allegedly told lead Detective Jeff Goodwin that he had indeed fought with “Li’l Ugly” on the basketball court and then shot him; he was charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, among other offenses, in connection with the shooting.
