Andy Ross, a realtor and Wooster Square activist who ran for alder on a good-government platform, appealed to his former neighbors for forgiveness in the wake of his guilty plea on a bribery charge.

Ross faces up to five years in prison when he appears in federal court for sentencing on Jan. 29. He admitted to He admitted to making about $349,500 in corrupt payments” to private companies controlled by the executive director of the West Haven Housing Authority, Michael Siwek, in exchange for government contracts and business,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. (Read a story about that here.)

Ross asked the Independent to publish the following open letter to the city:

Ross’s Letter

To the People of New Haven,

In the wake of reports by the Independent about my signing a plea agreement and admitting to certain financial crimes I want to say publically that I used extremely poor judgment while interacting with the West Haven Housing Authority. But I bear complete personal responsibility for that, with great regret, and hold myself and myself alone accountable for putting my family, friends, and neighbors through this terrible ordeal.

I am so disappointed in myself. I have only myself to blame,. I do hold myself fully accountable. I am the one responsible for my bad decisions and actions. Please know that I am remorseful and have learned a valuable lesson.. The United States Justice system has been fair with me which I appreciate.
I do want to respond to the few people who suggested that I was not taking personal responsibility and that in some way I was brushing off the gravity and seriousness of this issue. Nothing could be further from the truth because I am deeply sorry that I committed these offenses.

For 13 years I have lived in New Haven and been very active in many organizations that strive to make this city a wonderful, special place to live and work. My hope is that despite my mistakes the people of New Haven will forgive me and allow me to continue supporting the community and contributing in whatever positive way I can.

Sincerely,

Andy Ross
