Angel Lands On Grand Ave

You don’t often see someone lying on Grand Avenue with a smile on his face.

That’s what happened Saturday morning on Grand just west of Blatchley. Truman School student Leo Echevarria, 12, was playing with his two younger siblings in the middle of the road. Few vehicles were passing; all city roads were closed to non-emergency traffic Saturday. Leo’s mom Joselyn stood nearby supervising.

Leo had already written his name in the swale of snow piled three feet high by the sidewalk. Then he decided to go lie down in the middle of Grand.

I felt like [doing ] it. I never did it, and I wanted to do it just for fun,” he said.

His mom had no problem at all. In fact she endorsed it.

I’m happy to see him playing. He’s going to be a teenager soon,” so playing like a little kid touched her heart.
