Heimer and Sommer.

A freelance copy editor and an East Rock neighborhood activist sailed to victory in the latest round of the Independent’s typo-catching contest.

Each caught 112 typos, blowing away the rest of the pack.

Alyson Heimer is a 26-year-old part-time pre-school teacher at Mauro-Sheridan School. Born and raised in East Rock, she can be spotted around the neighborhood, helping to organize an annual festival or handing out candied apples at Friends of East Rock Park events.

She chose an Independent mug for her prize. She said she won’t use it for coffee, because no one can tell me what to put in my mug.”

Anne Sommer, of Hamden, entered the race as a ringer: She earns a living as a freelance copy editor. She also volunteers at the East Rock Magnet School and for Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services.

Sommer chose an Independent T‑shirt to mark her victory. She said she worked hard for the prize: I’m not giving it away.”

A new round is already underway. Join in here.
