Contributed Photo Michael Carrano has been diagnosed with stage four brain cancer—forcing him to leave his job as a New Haven firefighter after 15 years. He has retired with a partial pension and medical coverage, but still faces daunting medical bills. Now his fellow firefighters are raising money to help him.

Firefighter Carrano could be attributed to countless lives saved and children delivered since he began his career in Emergency Medicine 25 years ago,” stated firefighter Gary Cole, who set up a web page to collect donations.

“Now this selfless hero has found himself in the position where he is the one in the need of help. ... If we can could ease just an iota of his pain by lessening a bit of financial burden, I think it would help him fight the more important fight, which is to beat this and win the battle.”
