A week of noir. There’s the 1940s allure of wartime art preservation, discussed at New Haven Museum. There’s the 10th anniversary of the Hammettesque indie film Brick. And there’s Garrison Keillor, who created the character Guy Noir for A Prairie Home Companion, at SCSU.

Toad’s Wild Tour

Science!
The public viewing for the annual New Haven Public School Science Fair is today from 1 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in Yale’s Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, 1 Prospect St.

Monumental Art Talk

New Haven Museum has a small exhibit about one of the original Monuments Men who saved priceless artworks during World War II. Today at 5:30 p.m. the museum introduces you to a present-day Monuments Woman, Corine Wegener. She’s the Cultural Heritage Preservation Officer of the Smithsonian Institution, and she’ll be giving a talk entitled From Berlin to Baghdad: When Art Historians Go to War.” 114 Whitney Museum, New Haven. Wednesday, May 13

Bricked Up

Yale’s Whitney Humanities Center is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the modern teen-noir masterwork Brick. This singular mystery flick stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and is directed by Rian Johnson (who’s lately been tapped to write and direct the eighth Star Wars feature). 7 p.m. 53 Wall St., New Haven.

Whistler at Beauty

The Yale Art Gallery is screening the 2014 documentary James McNeill Whistler and the Case for Beauty 5:30 p.m. Before watching, you should catch the museum’s current exhibit of Whistler sketches.

Blood Orange

Til Matilda

The first national tour of the musical Matilda, with music and lyrics by the great British comedian/composer Tim Minchin (based on the classic children’s book by Roald Dahl), has been getting built and rehearsed at the Shubert.
