The intersection of Audubon and Whitney Avenue will be closed all week. Here’s a guide to getting by.
Streets are closing for an overhaul of the intersection, long the bane of pedestrians due to the difficulty of safe passage across Whitney.
The intersection will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Friday.
The city released this information about detours for motorists and bus-riders:
• The bus stop at the corner of Church and Grove Streets will be closed for the duration of the construction.
• Whitney Avenue between Grove and Trumbull Streets will be split into two two-way sections. A southern section will allow local traffic to reach destinations along Whitney Avenue between Grove and Audubon Streets, and a northern section will allow local traffic to do the same between Audubon and Trumbull Streets.
• For drivers who would normally proceed north along the length of this segment of Whitney Avenue, the Department of TT&P recommends two alternate routes: Drivers can turn right on Wall Street from Church Street, left on Orange Street, and then left on Trumbull Street to return to Whitney Avenue. Alternatively, drivers can turn left at Church Street and Grove Street, proceed along Grove Street to Hillhouse Avenue, and then take a right on Trumbull Street to return to Whitney Avenue.
• Finally, because there will be no access to Audubon Street from Whitney Avenue, Audubon Street will run as a two-way street for the duration of the closure. It will be accessible from either the north or the south from Orange Street.

I'm really glad they are making this improvement. Are they going to leave that block of Whitney two-way afterward? They should!
