Hundreds of parents and students in New Haven took part in the 8th Annual Back-to-School Rally, an event designed to bolster excitement and provide families with supplies and information relating to the upcoming 2015 – 2016 school year.

The event, which was sponsored by Frontier Communications, took place on Saturday at Hillhouse High School.

Joe Ferraiolo, Frontier’s area general manager for New Haven County talked about why it was important for Frontier to sponsor this event, adding Frontier is proud to support this well-loved and well-attended rally; we feel it is important to support the communities we serve, and are honored to play a role in the success of public school students in New Haven.”

Students were invited to participate in arts and crafts and various sports activities while parents and guardians visited several community volunteer tables with information on resources available to help them achieve a successful school year for their students.

Free backpacks filled with school supplies and raffle items were given away to students. New Haven Mayor Toni Harp and NHPS Superintendent Garth Harries also attended to lend their support.

The event was also sponsored in part by New Haven Public Schools, WYBC, the City of New Haven, United Way of New Haven, New Haven Police Department, Beyond Fitness and Apple Auto Wholesalers. Organizations such as New Haven Federation of Teachers and Read to Grow, and businesses such as First Student Bus Company and AFB Management donated supplies to make this event possible.
