The wife and children of a detective who protected New Haveners’ lives plan to journey to police headquarters to encourage his colleagues to remember him by helping to give life to others.
The visit is scheduled to take place Tuesday, as the department hosts an American Red Cross blood drive in honor of the detective Andrew Faggio (pictured) — “a beloved and respected member of our department who died in 2012 from injuries he sustained in the line of duty,” in the words of a police flyer.
The blood drive takes place all day at police headquarters.
Faggio suffered serious head injuries in an early-morning car crash in Madison in 2003. He was on his way to a robbery stakeout. He went into a vegetative state and never emerged from it. He was sworn in as an officer on Oct. 21, 1988. He was survived by his wife Jennifer Faggio and two sons, Andrew Jr. and Nicholas.
God bless you Andrew. I think of you and your family often. Please watch over us.
