They’ve Popped!”

In a triumphant sign of spring, a canopy of blossoms has again exploded over Hughes Place.

One observer said he cruised by the one-block Wooster Square street on Sunday without noticing any open flowers.

They must have popped this morning,” he remarked Monday.

The burst of pink and white is an annual, fleeting sight right next to the historic Wooster Square Park. Depending on the weather, the flowers of the Yoshino Cherry Trees only stay open for 10 to 14 days before falling to the ground.

Within a few minutes Monday morning, the blossoms drew interest from a dog-walker, a grandpa pushing a stroller, and a bird (pictured below).

The distinctive trees will be the topic of rejoicing at the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place in Wooster Square Park on Sunday, April 18th from 1 to 5 p.m. This year the festival will feature performances by The Neighborhood Music School Premier Jazz Ensemble, Tuxedo Junction Swing Band and St. Luke’s Steel Drum Band.
