Burglar Steals Gun, Leaves Liqueur Bottle

Burglars who stole a gun from an apartment on Elm Street left behind one clue — an empty bottle of Alize liqueur.

Cops were dispatched Tuesday at 4 p.m. to a home on the 700 block of Elm Street to investigate a suspected burglary, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.

A tenant on the second floor had heard noises coming from a neighbor’s apartment, although his neighbor was not at home. SWAT officers met the investigating officers at the scene.

The tenant of the targeted apartment arrived and reported the only item stolen was a Mossberg 500 pistol-grip 12 gauge shotgun,” Hartman’s report said.

Witnesses told the officers they had seen a woman, known in the neighborhood as a drug abusing prostitute,” standing outside the building. She seemed to be a lookout. The woman was thin and medium height, wearing a gray T‑shirt. Another witness reported seeing a man leave the apartment; he was described as in his late 20s to early 30s, of average build, with a teal T‑shirt.

Detectives found the bottle of Alize near the front door of the apartment. The tenant said it did not belong to him, so it was preserved for forensic scrutiny.”
