New Haven State. Rep. Juan Candelaria begins the legislative session with a new leadership role: chair of the Black and Latino Caucus.
The legislative caucus, comprised 20 state representatives and four state senators, announced the 2013 – 2014 leadership team in a press release Friday.
“It is a great honor to have been elected Chair of the Black and Latino Caucus,” Candelaria, who is also House deputy majority leader stated in a release. “The minority growth, attention and momentum we are witnessing across the state and nationwide is contagious and extremely important to us. We will use it to advance our priorities and strengthen our position as one unified and strong voice.”
He succeeds New Haven state rep. Gary Holder-Winfield in the position.
The Latinos will gain ground in all areas and will coalesce with whites. This will leave black folks again at the back of the line.
