Car-Strippers Do Civic Duty

Ohan Karagozian encountered a familiar skeleton on Asylum Street Thursday morning and thought: I’ve seen this movie before. I hope it’s not a sequel.

The skeleton was a stripped-bare Honda Civic.

Karagozian saw it a little before 7 a.m. as he pulled out of his driveway to pick up some deli meats for his son’s school lunch.

Karagozian and his neighbors used to see Honda skeletons all the time. Prolific car thieves were swiping Hondas all over town, driving them, dumping them on Asylum and surrounding streets in the Hill neighborhood, making off with spare parts to resell. Then the skeletons stopped coming — helped by this 2013 arrest by Officer Salvador Rodriguez.

So while the skeleton caught Karagozian off guard, he wasn’t completely surprised.

It looks like deja vu all over again,” he said — with the hope that this turns out to be an isolated case, not the resumption of a trend. Police officials contacted Thursday were not aware of an uptick.
