We don't need to spend our tax dollars to turn profits for the operators of Charter schools. If the operators can't make it work on the current allotment, get out of the business.

These poor people are such pawns, and they don't even recognize it. The cooperate-charter alliance even picks out their clothes for them.

You march because you have been duped into getting more money for people who have gotten rich and are not getting wealthy off of your advocacy and gullibility.

I would ask you "How's that working out for you?" But, you won't know until this can has been kicked farther down the road.

I understand that folks want the best for their children.

I know many public schools struggle with unruly students who ruin it for the majority of kids.

This state of affairs is difficult and almost criminal.

But if you think the vast majority of charter organizers are not in it for the money, then you are naive. Or, if you think these folks truly care about your kids, then .....

Charter school advocates are among the biggest scam artists in politics.Charters are the ideal deal, where the public takes all the risk and the corporations can't lose. Anyone who believes that the Lords of Capital would finance anything that puts real power in the hands of poor parents, is in serious need of remedial education.

Charter School are cash cow and the are the inventions of rightwing corporations, There is zero oversight for taxpayer money doled out like candy. Charter schools will turn out to be the biggest and most expensive fraud ever perpetrated on the taxpayers. But there is a noble goal in mind, To undermine and destroy the teacher's union and to line the pockets of people like this. These are the puppet masters who are behind the Charter School take over.

Do not care if they make a profit,

Have never seen complaints from charter parents. Just gripes from regular school teachers for their unions, and folks who always complain like 2/3 (and I)

The govt usually seems to get a better- educated, better-behaved student out of the charters, at less money spent , so it is OK with me if they do a good job, and still have a bit in profit.

Parochial schools imho , although no longer inexpensive (in my day , free) do an even better educating and training job with just about zilch in govt. aid. If those in CT reach their end,--and they are struggling, the State and local govts. will face an immense increase in costs.

Walt, you should expand your sources, or perhaps find some new ones, because the ones upon which you have relied are not serving you well.

Again, you should do better research. There are a plethora of websites, videos, statements, etc on the internet lodging complaints from parents concerning charter schools.

"At KIPP, I would wake up sick, every single day"

I was a teacher at a KIPP school for 1 /1/2 years. (Not in NYC) It was the most horrible experience of my life. The teachers and students are literally in school for 11 hours a day. You basically have no personal life as it is all about KIPP. The school has a cult like mentality with chants, rituals, and an obsessive focus on "being nice, work hard, get into college". I saw numerous teachers experience nervous breakdowns from the extreme pressure and harassment of administration. There was a 50% turnover for staff each year. They made me chaperone a week long trip to another city to visit colleges. I had to sleep in the same room as the students. (They do NOT pay anywhere near what would be expected from a district school.) KIPP also made me go door to door in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on the city that I worked in to recruit students.

Having received most of my education including my EMBA on scholarship. where I could easily been kicked out for breaking the rules, I see nothing wrong with catering a bit those students who pretty well try hard and obey rules generally and tossing out those who continually disrupt as at Success Academy.

So too, would I support the right of the teacher at Kipp schools in her attempt to unionize There is nothing in the law which prohibits unionization as I see it. It is the employees decision, and also the right of management to oppose, if they so desire

I note that many of the responses you cite re Kipp are pro-Kipp and pro-charter which you may have missed.

I still have seen no CT govt studies which do not show the charters as doing a better job for the kids than the regular schools,. I assume it is because you have none New York and other State's studies seem immaterial, I would think

If you still do not see your error, you might ask a charter graduate to explain

@ Walt, the reason the charter schools have students that are not problematic whether behavioral or academic is because they kick them out. Then, those same students come to public schools and we must teach them regardless of their personal situation. Also, schools are supposed to reach students where they are not where you want them to be. The money that charter schools receive does not go to the students but administrators. Dacia Toll makes over 200,000 a year and she has never been in a class room. We get students who have been abused mentally and emotionally that are from Amistad and Elm City.

Talk to the seniors at Hillhouse or Cross who have been kicked out of the charter schools because they rather go to the military or the work force out of high school than college. They have been told you must get out because if you don't go to college you will alter our 100% college acceptance rate. Then, they are threaten with retention if they do not want to leave.

So, Walt you do not know the whole story. Please, look pass the smoke and mirrors!
Finally, if public schools could administer selective enrollment as well as selective educating students our statistics would be off the charts too. But, we work for the needs of all children and must teach everyone regardless of their station in life.
