Rookie cop Marquis Morrison will appear in court in two weeks to answer to charges that he crashed his motorcycle into a 14-year-old girl, breaking her legs.

The case was continued to June 29 before this morning’s court session began at New Haven Superior Court on Elm Street. Morrison was scheduled to appear in Courtroom A at 10 a.m.

Morrison is accused of a hit-and-run at the corner of North Frontage Street and Sherman Avenue on April 30. According to a police report, he had been popping wheelies and riding at excessive speeds just before hitting 14-year-old Niije Kelly and breaking her legs. Morrison then sped from the scene and later lied about his involvement in the incident, police said.

Attorney Sean Barrett, whose firm is representing Morrison, said on Tuesday that attorneys are still completing their investigation of the incident. He declined to comment on how Morrison will plead to the charges.

Morrison is due in court on June 29.
