Cops Stop Rape In Progress

A homeless man broke into a Yale-owned apartment building on Edgewood Avenue near Park Street and attacked a woman inside around 6 p.m. Friday, police said.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:
A 52-year-old man, whose last known address is the Grand Avenue homeless shelter, knocked on the door to the apartment about an hour before the attack. He offered to help clean up some trash outside the house. The woman declined the offer.
The man later broke into the apartment and started attacking the woman. Her roommates overheard the “commotion” and called cops.
Yale Officers Earl Reed, Alex Rivera and Lieutenant Jay Jones arrived first at the scene. By that time the attack had progressed into a sexual assault. They “forced their way in and pulled the perpetrator away from the victim,” Hartman reported. Then they arrested him on home invasion, sexual assault, robbery, assault and burglary charges.
