After catching up to a fleeing suspect, cops discovered the reason he may have been moving so fast. His shoes were stuffed with cash, police said.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman officer Joe Avery:

Police stopped a car on Read Street on Tuesday for a motor vehicle violation. The driver jumped out of the car and started running. When police grabbed him, they found he was in possession of a large quantity of marijuana and had about $2,000 stuffed into his shoes.

In other police news, according to Avery:

At 6:20 on Wednesday, a delivery man from Empire Pizza was dropping off a pie on Thompson Street when he was approached by three or four males. One of them said the delivery man, “Give me what you got!” The delivery man fled in his car and found a police officer.
Also Wednesday, a customer helped avert a potential downtown bank robbery. A 29-year-old man entered Peoples Bank on Church Street at 4:30 p.m. He handed a teller a note demanding $500 in a bag. She asked the man if he was serious. The would-be robber seemed unsure.

Meanwhile, a customer noticed that the man was acting suspiciously. He got the attention of the bank teller, who signaled that she was being robbed. The customer then tackled the robber and held him until police arrived.
