Connecticut’s leading on-air news voice is set to become New England’s.
The voice belongs to John Dankosky, host of WNPR’s indispensable Where We Live program, a daily morning in-depth look at statewide news and issues.
The station announced Monday that Dankosky, its current vice-president of news, will as of May 2 become executive editor of a new “New England News Collaborative (NENC)” made up of eight public radio stations in the region. The collaborative will produce multimedia news stories for the eight stations — Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network/WNPR, WBUR Boston, Maine Public Broadcasting Network, New Hampshire Public Radio, Vermont Public Radio, New England Public Radio, Rhode Island Public Radio, and WSHU Public Radio — as well as for national NPR program like All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Here & Now. The coverage will focus on energy usage, climate, transportation, infrastructure, and its people and immigration issues, according to this WNPR press release. A $625,538 Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant is funding the new collaborative.
Dankosky will also host a new daily radio and podcast program focused on New England issues starting in the summer, according to the release. He will continue to appear on Where We Live‘s weekly “Wheelhouse” segment.
Meanwhile, WNPR’s Lucy Nalpathanchil will succeed Dankosky as Where We Live‘s host.
