williams.jpgPolice late Wednesday were scouring the city for this 22-year-old accused crook, who escaped from court by pretending to be someone else.

His name is John Williams. According to mayoral spokesman Jessica Mayorga, he was brought Wednesday from the police lock-up to the state courthouse to answer aggravated assault charges. He also is facing motor vehicle-related charges and an old charge of attempted aggravated assault on a cop, according to Mayorga.

She said that while in the courthouse, being held on bond, Williams somehow managed to “convince a sheriff he was someone else” who had made bond, and he got away.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Williams’ last known address was on Ward Street in the Hill.
