Police were called to the scene of a car accident Saturday night — and ended up arresting one of their own.
An off-duty detective called police for assistance at 7:11 p.m. after getting into a minor accident in her personal car at Chapel and Park streets, according to shift commander Lt. Doug Harkins.
Officers arrived and concluded the detective appeared to be inebriated. They called Harkins to the scene. A test administered at the scene confirmed the detective was intoxicated, Harkins said.
The detective, who has been on the force for more than a decade, was subsequently charged with driving under the influence, then released.
She has a difficult job. I hope she gets the support she needs and I am glad no one is seriously injured!
