Stink bugs and municipal elections don’t go together at all, but that didn’t stop Eugene Driscoll from pairing them Nov. 2 on “Valley Navel Gazing.”
That’s because the great Connecticut stink bug invasion has been the bane of his existence for some time now. They come into his home. They were the cause of temporary numbness on his wife’s lip. They ruin his fruit and terrorize his children. On the latest episode of “Valley Navel Gazing,” he connected by phone with Mary Conklin, coordinator of Fruit Crops Integrated Pest Management (IPM) at the University of Connecticut, to talk about the truths and fictions surrounding their stinky flight into the state.
Conklin’s contribution? They’re largely harmless, it turns out.
Stinkbugs weren’t the only thing on his mind, with several political contests hanging in the balance until tomorrow’s election. In Ansonia, Mayor David Cassetti faces Democratic Aldermen Edward Adamowski. In Seymour, young Democrat Zani Imetovski will challenge Republican incumbent Kurt Miller for first selectman. Derby’s Anita Dugatto and Richard Dziekan will also go head to head.
In that spirit, Driscoll opened the phone lines during the second half of the show to get a pulse of the public in advance of the Nov. 3 election.
Chris Bailey of Shelton called in, along with Lorie Vacarro and Ken Plavnicky of Ansonia.
